Proposed exhibit
Nancy Warner’s evocative black and white photographs tell stories of farmhouses that once were loved but are now abandoned.
A book of the photographs, published by Columbia University Press, includes quotations from Nebraska farm people. These voices are incorporated into the exhibition as audio recordings with an option to print on a designated wall.
A wall display of historical photographs, maps, documents, and artifacts, specific to Cuming County, broaden the visual story. Excerpts from the Afterword (by sociologist David Stark) inform viewers about the history of emigration, settlement, and farming practices on the Great Plains.
Recorded voices enliven the installation.
